#43 Keeping a Nature Journal: Discover a Whole New Way of Seeing the World Around You

Keeping a Nature Journal: Discover a Whole New Way of Seeing the World Around YouKeeping a Nature Journal: Discover a Whole New Way of Seeing the World Around You by Clare Walker Leslie
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Good book for whetting your appetite for nature journaling. Lots of good examples of sketches, including lots of complete journal pages. Too much time is spent on things like explaining what each of the seasons are (would we really not know?) and the mechanism that gives us seasons (the explanations is not exactly accurate...). There are lots of little tips and pointers. The most useful ones are the specific ones (here's how to draw insects, they have bilateral symmetry, there are six legs and they attach to the body here) rather than the vague ones. Unfortunately it seemed that the vague ones outnumbered the specific ones. There are some good exercises, but I wish there had been more of these. Overall, there is a good can-do attitude about the book, but Walker didn't quite bridge the gap between where I am and where she is, or even where I would like to be.
