Snowed In

I've never literally been snowed-in for any substantial amount of time before, but right now that's exactly what we are and have been for the last 36 hours or so. There has been no sign of a snowplow on our street since early early Saturday morning (I'm writing this Sunday afternoon). As my neighbor put it, "ain't nobody been out. Ain't nobody getting out." Not until a decent snow plow comes through, anyway. Mmmm...on second thought that's not quite true. Some have been out, but there is only one way: on foot.

It's not a big deal really. We have everything we need: power, gas, phone and internet, plenty of food; and we have nowhere to go. Church was canceled today (second week in a row). School is canceled for tomorrow. What about work tomorrow? I don't know yet, but I have my fingers crossed (not literally). We're enjoying ourselves and only getting a little stir-crazy.

UPDATE (Sunday, 9:00 pm): A snowplow was spotted! The plow made it back almost to our cul-de-sac before giving up and leaving. The problem is the cul-de-sac wasn't made to handle this much snow. There's nowhere to put it! (The snowplows around here also weren't made to handle this much snow.) The question is: did they give up just for the night or for good? Still snowed in. Still hanging in there.

UPDATE (Monday, 4:00 pm): We are out! No thanks to any stinking snowplows. Today the whole neighborhood got outside and dug until we were free. It was quite a feat. There was a lot of snow to move, but with everyone working and with all the work that we had each done individually Saturday and Sunday we got it done in a few hours. Just in time for more snow tomorrow! Needless to say, I didn't have work today. No school for the kids again tomorrow. We'll see whether I have work tomorrow.

At least you have the comforts that you need to get you through the wait. I hope you don't have to go to work tomorrow. That is a lot of snow.

I was thinking of you guys when I heard about the blizzard up there. I hope you are still staying toasty. I'll enjoy some 60 degree, sunny, perfect cycling weather down here for you.

Wow, it looks like you're getting hit again today or tomorrow! Have you ever tried making snow ice cream?

Fortunately this last storm didn't drop as much snow and everybody had apparently learned some lessons from the last storm. The plows had us out by this morning (Thursday).
