General Conference

Today my family watched General Conference (of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints). It's called General Conference because it is for the whole Church, as opposed to local conferences. It is broadcast from Salt Lake City. Talks are given by the leaders of the Church. Archives of the conference are available at http://www.lds.org/conference/sessions/display/0,5239,49-1-851,00.html.

General Conference happens twice a year. When were living in Utah we could watch Conference on broadcast T.V. Now we watch it on our computer.

This conference was special in that it was the first General Conference since the passing of Gordon B. Hinckley, Prophet and President of the Church. That means this was the first time that the new Prophet and President of the Church, Thomas S. Monson addressed the Church membership in general (as President, he has spoken in General Conference many times before). My kids loved listening to him! He mentioned that one time when his wife had to be gone from the home for a few days that he left a note for his kids saying "don't let Daddy touch the microwave, stove, dishwasher,..." My kids cracked up. They wondered how he would be able to make quesadillas for them.

For sometime now I have been trying to start the tradition in my family of eating Twizzlers while watching Conference, but it doesn't seem to be catching on...
