Other than The Dark Is Rising (the second book of the series) itself, this is the book in this series most worth reading. There are some interesting new characters introduced, the setting (rural Wales...wait, isn't all of Wales rural?) is fun, the first hints of moral ambiguity enter the struggle between the Light and the Dark, and with this book the whole series is more immediately tied to the Arthurian legends.
